Davita , one of the most recognized names in dialysis centers nationwide, wants to help promote their internal technician to become Registered Nurses. However, their traditional reimbursement college program, where the employees take the courses and try to pass the RN NCLEX test, has a miserable passing grade of only 30% in their first attempt. Davita has chosen their main contractor’s top Nurse Practitioner to come in and assist in improving the passing percentage of their staffs.

The Challenge: the traditional textbooks, while provide good overall general knowledge of required by RN, are not very effective in helping the staffs to pass the tough NCLEX test.

The Solution:

I worked closely with their top N.P. contractors (the SME) to help write adn edit the ‘ crash-course’ summary guide to pass the NCLEX. By implementing more concise writing ( with the help of A.I. to accelerate editing speed) and human factor design (using clean and modern aesthetic graphic design) to partition contents in an easier way to absorb vast information, with catchy mnemonic abbreviation to help with RECALL capability, we produce 3 eye-catching and simpler to use guidebooks to help their staffs to pass the test. The result is quite promising with over 25% increase in passing numbers in their first attempt.

Micro-learning principles have been applied here as well even for a static old-fashion guidebook. The chapters are broken into smaller sections such that learners can complete the study of that subsection within a 10-15 min time slot. Then they can log into their free online account with the accompanying website to do the online quiz practices. The system would keep that student’s personal score and generate a performance analytic, displaying the score of all their past quizzes. Unlike most other tests, NCLEX does not have a fix percentage passing score. They instead use ‘LOGIT’ score system. Nonetheless, the students are encouraged to score at least 90 percentile to increase their chance of passing the test the first time.
