Stiizy, the largest cannabis retailer in the U.S., is now worth more than $1.5 billion according to Forbes in 2025. With meteoric demands of their first of its kind battery-powered vapers, Stiizy was unable to recruit enough employees for their fast-expanding 500 stores.. The training of inexperienced but friendly sales staff was severely needed.

The Challenge: most of their existing training were PowerPoint that were hastily converted from their partially completed S.O.P. Powerpoint, using Articulate 360. The materials were full of text in PDF, poorly written and organized. There was minimal retention and applying knowledge learned and many costly mistakes were committed, resulting in multiple citations and ( temporary ) store closured due to code violation by the City and State officials.

The newly appointed Training & Dev Director was very open-minded about new innovative e-learning options during the Covid lock-down. Since there were no existing templates of the learning materials, I created the master design templates for their training manuals and e-learning platform. Stiizy remains one of my most innovative, full of engaging animation and graphics to keep the Gen Z learners engaged. Cutting-edge design and animation were deployed using micro and mobile learning strategy. In fact, my design works, have been adopted the standard learning design templates ever since for their ever-fast growing employees

By applying the O.D. Action Research theory, as the framework for designing different stages of learning contents to promote participative problem- solving and continuous improvement. Due to the audiences’ very short attention span and breakdown of the complexity of the subject matter in smaller digestible chuck, micro-learning principles have been integrated into the courses. Essentially, each chapters are broken into 3-5 min micro modules that can be learn from their company’s provided IPAD in 15-30 rotating sessions. Few employees can step out from the sales floor and take the learning course quickly and return to work immediately instead of taking half or a full day off. The retention level nearly tripled from the previous scores. With the LMS and my human-centered designed quizzes, the staff were consistently scoring in the 80 percentiles. Quarterly report showed significant reduction in errors during sales and citation issues with the City officials.
